Building Organizational Support for Community Risk Reduction (W0636): This 2-day course is designed to help fire and emergency services learn what community risk reduction is and how to build organizational support for it. This course will address the challenges that fire departments face in shifting their priorities from response to prevention. In many departments, community risk reduction is still considered a low priority. This course will show you how community risk reduction can help you and your department become more of a community player in times of decreased budgets. This course includes 3 units of instruction:  1. Components of Community Risk Reduction, 2. Community Risk Reduction as a Service Priority, and 3. Building Organizational Support for Community Risk Reduction.

NOTE: There is a pre-course assignment to complete before the first day of class that should take about 1 hour to complete.


Command and Control for Company Level Operations (W0296): This is a 2-day course intended to provide a practical application of knowledge and skills for company officers or those aspiring for that next level.  This course builds on the following topics discussed in the online self-study course Q0891, "Foundations of Leadership and Operations for the Company Officer":  1. Defining the company officer, 2. Preplanning, 3. Managing incidents, and 4. Operational communications

Prerequisite: Incident Command System (ICS)-100-level, ICS-200-level training. (Preferred courses are Q0462 and Q0463),

Executive Skills Series: Exercising Leadership Ethically (W0523):  This 2-day course provides students with the ability to recognize ethical dilemmas in the context of their environments, apply a decision model to resolve these dilemmas, render ethical decisions, and defend under scrutiny the resulting decisions that were made in an effort to resolve these dilemmas.

Fire Investigation: First Responders (W0770): This 2-day course presents a basic overview of a fire investigation for the first responder. Students will review the basics of fire chemistry and develop an understanding of the role of the first responder in relation to fire suppression and fire investigation. The course will stress the importance of fire scene awareness, evidence identification, preservation, and the basics of a fire investigation. Students will develop an appreciation for the convergence of suppression, investigation, science, and law

Incident Safety Officer (W0729): This two-day course examines the Safety Officer's role at emergency responses. A specific focus on operations within an Incident Command System (ICS) as a Safety Officer is a main theme. Response to all-hazard types of situations will be emphasized.

Leadership in Supervision: Perspectives in Thinking (W0647): This 2-day course provides the supervisor with the conceptual foundation and framework for success in leadership roles by exploring creative, analytical, political, and critical thinking perspectives. The course addresses skills needed for assessing situations from multiple perspectives, making critical decisions, fostering creativity and innovation, and using persuasion.

Residential Sprinkler Plan Review (W0142): The scope of this fundamental-level course looks at the following as the primary guidance for the approval of residential sprinkler systems:

- National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems

- NFPA 13D, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in One- and Two-Family Dwellings and Manufactured Homes

- NFPA 13R, and Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in Low-Rise Residential Occupancies

- International Residential Code Standard P2904

- Manufacturer's Data Sheets

- The ability to read and interpret the design is an essential element of preventive fire safety. 

The audience should have an understanding of the history of water-based fire protection systems and methods used to verify hydraulic calculation.

Safety for Hazardous Materials Incidents (W0256):  Using scenarios and activities, you will oversee the safety officer role in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from hazardous materials/WMD incidents.

Strategy and Tactics for Initial Company Operations (W0455):  This 2-day course is designed to meet the needs of Company Officers (COs) responsible for managing the operations of 1 or more companies during structural firefighting operations. This course is designed to develop the management skills needed by COs to accomplish assigned tactics at structure fires.

 Supervising Emergency Medical Services (W0146):  This 2-day course provides an introduction to the knowledge, skills and abilities required to navigate current emergency medical services (EMS) management issues and the challenges in moving from EMS provider to EMS supervisor. Course topics and activities include:

Health and safety
