Youth Firesetter Intervention Specialist

Purpose

The purpose of this program is to identify emergency service personnel and other professional who demonstrate competency in the performance requirements necessary to perform the duties of a Youth Firesetter Intervention Specialist . The NFPA 1035 Standard for Professional Qualifications for Public Fire and Life Safety Educator identifies the minimum requirements for an individual to be certified at the Juvenile Firesetter I level. The individual shall possess the ability to deliver effective intervention programming including fire safety education and counseling to prevent and mitigate the impact of juvenile firesetting. 

The individual have demonstrated the ability to identify the need for psychological services, provide individuals and families in the program with a network of inter-agency contacts to help, jointly address the problem and relieving the risk associated with juvenile firesetting behavior.

Individuals who certify represent various disciplines which include the fire service, law enforcement, juvenile justice, mental health, social services, and forestry.
