Pennsylvania's Juvenile Firesetting Firesetter and Parent Assessment Tool

Assessment of the juvenile firesetter and his or her caregivers is an important element in the process of juvenile firesetter intervention.  Assessments are necessary to acquire data regarding the fire setting activity, the juvenile and caregivers so that referrals may be made for the appropriate intervention.  In compliance with the Pennsylvania Protocol, assessments are conducted utilizing the state’s adoptedAssessment Tool and are always conducted by both a fire service official and a mental health practitioner who are trained and experienced in conducting assessments.  These two disciplines, working collaboratively, have proven to be highly successful in assessing the youth and caregivers, making the required report to the Regional Multidisciplinary Team who in turn will determine the appropriate intervention.
